i’d rather not get too deep into this subject, as it’s so touchy, and especially to those of the left-leaning persuasion. David Kay, who recently resigned as head of the WMD hunt in Iraq, made statements in the senate regarding pre-war intelligence on Saddam’s weapons cache.
basically, i’ve seen people all over the place distort what he said to fit exactly what they want to hear - the US forged documents, and ‘Bush lied’. get over yourselves, with your conspiracy theories, and partisan slamming of the right wing (and no, i’m not a republican). when you can only find evil in the bush administration, you lose all credibility with me.
what did Kay really say? he said that all major intelligence (that from Germany, France, England, and the US) pointed to the fact that Iraq had WMD’s. he also says that our intelligence regarding Libya was off as well - they had a much more advanced program than we thought.
maybe it’s just me, but i don’t think this is a ‘Bush lied’ issue. i think this goes back to a lack of funds for the intelligence community over the past decade. without proper funding and the right # of agents in the field, we’re doomed to have intelligence fiascos like this again in the future.
he even goes on to say that the iraqis destroyed tons of evidence after the war. he also says that he does not believe that the bush administration lied or deceived the american people. all he’s saying is that our intelligence, and that of others in the international communiy for that matter, was flawed. it needs to be fixed, and soon. the CIA, FBI, et al need more funding to be truly effective.
arguing about things like this is along the lines of debating religion, but i thought i’d try to un-spin all of the articles i’ve read about this whole fiasco lately.
Kay’s transcript is below.
