I Gots Me a PowerMac!

Thursday, January 15th, 2004

well, with the need for a laptop at school waning, i decided it was a good time to trade up to a better machine, and get some value for my PowerBook while i still could. long story made short, i met a guy who wanted a powerbook, and was willing to trade a nice powermac for it. so that’s the story on that.

anyways, i got a 1ghz PowerMac, and have since bought another 512mb of RAM and a superdrive for it, so i have a gig of ram, and a DVD burner. additionally, i bought a 20″ Apple Cinema Display last week, so i’m rocking what i consider a very nice machine. i was planning on buying a g5 this summer, but now i’ll wait a while before i take that plunge.

this baby flies. i thought my powerbook was fast, but it’s seriously half the speed of this machine. eat my dust!

Absent Presence

Thursday, January 15th, 2004

here is an article about the newest trends in human behavior: half heartedly talking on the phone while chatting online, walking down the sidewalk talking on your cell phone … basically being physically somewhere, but your mind is elsewhere. a good read.

the author says it best, when they say:

Just as feasting on an abundance of rich, available food can make you overweight, so we seem gorged on too much easily accessed information. We need a kind of information diet.

i think we’re all guilty of this type of information overload (myself included) way too much in this day and age. when i’m bored, the first thing i do is plop down in my chair and start surfing. we always have to be connected, always occupied. i know that i personally have to get away from this type of ‘lifestyle’ and start getting outside more.

As Much as I Hate Georgia …

Thursday, January 15th, 2004

i have to say that the weather in the past year has been so nice. while other parts of the country were dealing with record highs, and right now parts are going thru record cold snaps, Atlanta is experiencing record awesome temperatures. i don’t think it got much higher than 90 last summer, and it’s been pretty warm all winter as well. the high today is around 60, and it’s only getting down to the low 40s at night. if this is our winter, bring it on.

speaking of nice weather, i’ll be going back to florida in 2 weeks with the IPS boys again. i have some vacation time saved up at work that i have to use before i can get any more, so i figure what better time to use it. as per usual, it’ll be nice to get away from here for a while.

Funniest Thing I’ve Ever Read

Thursday, January 8th, 2004

okay, that may be a stretch, but this is seriously priceless. a woman tried to use a monopoly ‘get out of jail free’ card when being sentenced. check it out, and laugh muchly.

Worst Bands of 2003

Thursday, January 1st, 2004

apparently, Limp Bizkit and Creed are the worst bands of 2003, as per Guitar World magazine.

stuff like this just brings a smile to my face.

also notably, ‘all pop-punk bands’ came in as #4 (and my arch enemies, Good Charlotte, came in at #5.)
