Keenan McCardell
August 24th, 2004
I’m sure most of you guys don’t care about NFL football. and i’m also sure you all know i’m a big bucs fan. well, last night, i was watching NFL countdown on ESPN, and one of the WR’s from the Bucs was a guest on the show - Keenan McCardell. Keenan is holding out for a bigger contract, so he isn’t with the team right now. basically, he had a good year last year, and thinks he’s not paid as much as he’s worth. the Bucs counter by saying that he’s 34 (pretty old by NFL standards), he’s still one of the highest paid WR’s in the NFL that are his age, and he still has 2 years left on his deal - so get out there and play, and deal with it.
anywho, this is what i found funny:
McCardell said he is prepared to sit out the entire 2004 season, endure daily fines and forfeit his $2.5 million salary if the Bucs do not give him a new deal.
“I’m ready to sit out the entire season,” said McCardell. “I sat down with my wife and my dad and we talked about it. My dad taught me something when I was little. When you feel like you’re right you’ve got to stand up and fight for it, so I’m going to do that. I’m ready to sit.“
this ranks up there with the Mike Vick quote about his two weapons.

what sucks is that the Bucs should have traded him to the lowly Dolphins. they lost their running back (retired) and their starting WR for the season - they could have demanded a 2nd round pick or so from them. however, the bears beat them to the punch, and traded Marty Booker to the Fins for Ogunleye, one of the best young defensive ends in the NFL.
oh well.

yea, he was holding out. they couldn’t afford him. Booker
is damn good though. you guys need a WR more than another awesome DE. you’ve already got Taylor, let everyone else have a turn too.
