11 months go to. The first two months here have been mind numb­ing - most of the classes I have taken have been boring, review-​style ses­sions I should have tried to test out of. For­tu­nately, I escaped with very good grades in all of the courses, which is the only thing that I can hang my hat on. The real moti­va­tor is my upcom­ing course sched­ule - finally, some­thing that will keep my inter­est.

One of the classes is going to still be a slight review from AIA (Com­puter Graph­ics) - which is mainly an intro class from what I gather. We’ll be learn­ing Pho­to­shop, Illus­tra­tor, After Affects, and Flash. Noth­ing too crazy, but maybe I will pick up a thing or two from new instructors.

The class I am look­ing for­ward to is the Design Art Theory class. The main reason is that one of the books we were given was writ­ten by Hill­man Curtis, who is one of the more pop­u­lar ‘new media’ artists around today. I’ve read some of his books before, and I’m sure we’ve all seen his work before (the Adobe web site comes to mind). He’s a bril­liant guy, so any advice I can get out of his books will be a wel­come addition.

I’m look­ing for­ward to get into the mate­r­ial that I came here to study. Going from my major classes @ AIA to these Gen-​Ed courses has really driven me nuts. But, it’s over now, and the real fun can begin. Mainly, I’m just look­ing for­ward to moving to a new build­ing that’s closer to my apart­ment, and a class­room that will be miss­ing some of the friendly record­ing stu­dents. These kids all are aspir­ing rap stars, and it’s really start­ing to get to me. So, being sep­a­rated from those guys will be good for me.

I don’t know how many people noticed, but I made some subtle visual changes to the site. One, I’ve added a php script that will auto­mat­i­cally change the banner image on every page load. The source code can be found over @ A List Apart. Also, I’ve added a little drop shadow to the main window. I had orig­i­nally done it dif­fer­ently, using PNGs for every­thing but IE… But again, MS had it in for me. The orig­i­nal ver­sion looked a lot nicer, but I’ll just go with the gra­di­ent GIF for now. Let me know if you Win­dows IE users see any weird­ness over on your end. I took a look on a Win­dows machine @ school, but didn’t have time to really sniff around. Anyone want to buy me Vir­tual PC?
