Mac Mini - More Than Meets the Eye?
January 12th, 2005

As soon as I saw the Mac Mini this morning on Apple’s home page, a thought popped into my head:
“This thing looks like it’s meant not only as a entry level computer, but also could be used as a tivo-style computer for your living room”.
It’s got all the built in support that Mac OS has for HD, DVDs, music, photos, etc, and this article actually takes my thought to another level. All you really need is a composite video adapter and an IR reciever (both sold by apple on their webpage) and you have a ~ $500 entertainment center at your fingertips. I won’t be buying one for that purpose (too poor to be buying anything for $500), but you can tell Apple is trying to muscle their way into the “media center” arena of the living room - something they’re been neglecting for some time now.
[edit: 1/14 - Here is another article talking about an upcoming hardware item that could bridge the gap from Mac Mini to media center heaven.}
