Yuletide.

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

I just wanted to wish all my friends, and even just casual readers of the site, a Merry Christmas.  This holiday season so far has been exceptionally busy for me, but I cannot wait to spend Christmas Eve and Day with my family, who I feel I never see enough these days.  I’m fairly sad that circumstances dictated I did not get a tree this year, but I pledge next year to go all out in an effort to make my new apartment as much of a winter wonderland as possible.

Hope everyone gets a ton of great food, spends a lot of time with their loved ones, and really takes time to appreciate how important they are to you.  Have fun.

iconsSo, it appears Adobe has finally released a preview of what the icons for the upcoming CS3 suite will look like.

Now first, I should say that I’ve hated Adobe’s iconography for quite some time now, and recall bashing the change of Illustrator’s icon in CS2 (along with Photoshop and everything else). Now, they’ve gone with this ‘periodic table meets starburst’ look that is sure to make my Dock a total mess.

As others have mentioned, creating icons is all about creating small, recognizable images that help distinguish them from others. Having an entire family of applications, all with essentially the same icon, is going to give me headaches.

I understand that the logic is surely an attempt to unify the Adobe and Macromedia apps’ icons into a single family, but this has to be a joke. But it’s not.

Ah well, I guess when you’re bitching about icons, life aint that bad.

Humor. Audiobooks. iTunes. Hodgman. Awesome. Free.

If any of those words mean anything to you, you should go check out John Hodgman’s (the ‘I’m a PC’ guy, and of Daily Show fame) book on iTunes - which for now is free … that’s right, zero dollars, at the iTunes Music Store.

I’ve read part of it already, but hearing him read it himself is even better. One of the funniest books of 2005 (if you like insanely verbose, useless, dry humor), and free? Go. Now.

Plus, just read his blog anyway or subscribe to his podcasts. He’s great.

Closure.

It’s funny how, no matter how much you feel something, or care for someone in this world, there is a breaking point. There is a point where, despite anything you feel, have felt, or believed in the past, you simply shut off the part of you that ever cared in the first place. I still have feelings - of course I do … and I will always cherish the moments and the feelings I shared in the past. As insane as it may sound, I’d go through all of this again just to feel that for one more instant. Additionally, I guess it’d impossible to say it could never happen again. I’d love to be able to work on getting back to where we used to be … it’d take a lot, but you never know.

That doesn’t mean that I’m not prepared to move on. That doesn’t mean I haven’t already shut ‘er down, so to speak.
