iconsSo, it appears Adobe has finally released a preview of what the icons for the upcoming CS3 suite will look like.

Now first, I should say that I’ve hated Adobe’s iconography for quite some time now, and recall bashing the change of Illustrator’s icon in CS2 (along with Photoshop and everything else). Now, they’ve gone with this ‘periodic table meets starburst’ look that is sure to make my Dock a total mess.

As others have mentioned, creating icons is all about creating small, recognizable images that help distinguish them from others. Having an entire family of applications, all with essentially the same icon, is going to give me headaches.

I understand that the logic is surely an attempt to unify the Adobe and Macromedia apps’ icons into a single family, but this has to be a joke. But it’s not.

Ah well, I guess when you’re bitching about icons, life aint that bad.

  1. Yuck! Do you have a URL where all the icons are shown? I hope that tiny little Acrobat symbol at about 2 p.m. isn’t the only indicator of which program it is? If so, I better get some glasses — or a magnifying glass. The icons in the CS suite bother me too. What does a feather have to do with Photography? I’m still trying to figure it out. I think simple. Put a big P on Photoshop, an ID on InDesign, an I on Illustrator, etc. Don’t confuse me and make me remember that a feather means photography.
