Resolutions.

January 1st, 2007

My New Years’ resolutions:

  • Pay off all non-student loan related debts by the end of this year. This will be tough, but I can make it happen. Fiscal responsibility in general is something I’ll be striving for.
  • Become a better cook. I’d like to spend a lot of time honing this, as I’d like to eat healthier and make fewer trips to the store. I may take a class or two.
  • (Re)learn to speak Spanish relatively fluently. Ironically, my brother and his friend are doing this as well. It’ll be nice to have Spanish buddies to learn with.
  • Leave the past in the past. Look forward. For me, after something bad, generally something really good happens.
  • I’d say ‘get into better shape’, but that’s not only cliche’, but I’m already in tip-top physical condition.  Okay, actually I’m shooting for 25 miles a week running.

Happy New Year’s everyone!

  1. Ooh, how are you learning Spanish? I’ll totally do it with you. I mean, I’ve never been anywhere close to fluent, but I do know an awful lot. We can send IMs in Spanish in intervals throughout the day. =)

  2. That’s what I’m working on right now. I’m trying to find a local place, and I know the Latin American Association (just north of Lenox Rd. on Buford Highway) offers classes.

  3. I took a Spanish class here. My instructor was pretty cool, and I think I still have his e-mail address. Unless you’re signing up for a really high-level, I’ll take the class with you. I need to become fluent is something other than English.

  4. Some of those New Year’s pictures are a hoot. Matt looks like a serial killer in one (but otherwise completely unchanged). Erik looks like he’s working on growing a bushy mane. Haha. By the way, who’s kid is that in the pic’s? (I always forget some of you folks have procreated.)

  5. Yeah, that one with Matt & Anthony (Ryan & Andrea’s little guy) is creepy for sure. We had a good time at Ryan’s parent’s lake house. It’s a super nice place.

    You have a good holiday?

  6. I’ve got your address Cory, I’m working on those with birthdays close to mine.

P.S. How the hell are ya these days?

  7. Haha, I’m good. I left on Dec 7 for a two week trip to Whittier, AK to deliver some rail cars. I figured I’d be home in time for Christmas. We made it to our destination and turned around to come home and there were 30 to 40 foot seas with 80 mph winds in our face, so we had to stay in Alaska for a solid week just doing circles and waiting for good weather. I ended up getting back to Seattle on January 1. I didn’t even get to spend New Year’s Eve on land. I was on the boat for the entire holiday season.

We did however, save 3 people’s lives. Some local yokels up in Prince William Sound (Alaska) decided to take their boat out to go hunting on an island. During the day, a blizzard started and upon trying to get home these three got lost and nearly ran out of gas. They mayday’d the Coast Guard, who was six hours away. Dark was setting in and these guys didn’t have a flashlight or even a covered cockpit on their boat. It was snowing like mad. They had a radio, which they used until the battery died. We managed to find them and pick them up. We accidentally sunk their boat on the ride back to land. So we saved their lives (it snowed 6 feet that night) and we kept them from ever making this mistake again by putting their boat 600 feet below the surface.

A good holiday for sure. Haha.
