Modest.

modestmouse_weweredeadFirst of all, let me say how much I enjoy the ‘check for purchases automatically’ + pre-ordering functionality of iTunes. A few months ago, I pre-ordered the newest Modest Mouse album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, and when I woke up last Tuesday morning, wouldn’t you know it! The album was waiting in my iTunes library, ready to sync with my iPod. Very slick.

Anywho, Modest Mouse has come a long way since their … well, modest, beginnings. They’ve been one of my favorites for a while now, but I wasn’t sure what to expect with their latest offering. Their last CD, Good News for People Who Love Bad News, was really good, but I wasn’t sure if they were going to go the pop route, or stick to their more classic sound. Anyhow, I was really pleased that they kind of struck a balance - it’s very well produced, and has a nice mix of real poppy type songs, with some of their more classic jams, that kind of ‘deconstruct’ at some point with Issac’s lyrical stylings taking over.

Fire it Up and Florida are by far my 2 favorite songs on the album. Yep.

  1. Yea, that album is one of there best works, I tend to think as a band get progressively more popular there albums tend to take a move for the worse, but Modest Mouse is not one of those bands.

Florida rocks! And I’m not talking about the state.
