Too bad.

On a related note, if Bush vetoes the Iraq spending bill Tuesday that includes a withdrawal timetable, it will be interesting, given exactly 4 years ago on Tuesday Bush declared our mission was accomplished, and major combat operations were over.

What a long, sweet, successful ride it’s been.

Iraq.

The first round of democratic primary debates focused mainly on Iraq. It’s interesting to see a lot of the lesser known candidates, along with Clinton, Edwards & Obama debate some of the bigger issues going on right now in Baghdad.

The link for the video is on the right sidebar.

cs3_dock

The icons for the new CS3 apps look so horribly out of place on my dock. I cannot wait for someone to come along with some replacement icons, because these are already driving me nuts.

However, all of the cs3 apps absolutely fly. It’s nice to finally have these apps running natively - Photoshop & Flash in particular have really shown a lot of progress in their featureset & ability to take advantage of the Core2Duo processors.

But yeah, the icons are killing me.

Waves.

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Ever wondered about the physics behind a traffic jam? Why there is a massive buildup of cars with what turns out to be nothing at all holding up the line? If I had a nickel for every time this happens in almost any metropolitan area, I’d be a rich man. Even one brake light, given the right conditions on the highway, can cause a traffic buildup for quite some time.

Anyway, this site outlines what causes these dynamic ‘waves’ to occur, and how you can alter your driving behavior to actually reduce the amount of traffic jams you encounter. Of course, a lot of this is dependent on other sane, competent drivers around you - which is asking a lot.

Regardless, it’s a pretty interesting read with some really high-end graphics to go along with the write-up.

Relief.

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I was reading this article about the hybrid tax credit and it would appear that I have lucked out. I was pretty close to jumping in on the Prius bandwagon last Summer, and a lot of the logic behind it was the tax credit that was due to people who bought the hybrid before a certain calendar date. It would appear that people who were anticipating got bit by loopholes in the Alternative Minimum Tax portion of our exciting tax code. In other words, most people were only able to receive around 50% of the $3,000+ they were hoping to get knocked off their taxes.

Without the tax credit, it really isn’t economical to get a hybrid. I’m glad I held out, but I do wish I had a new car! Hopefully the Passat can give me another 8-12 months before I take the plunge.
