Relief.

I was reading this article about the hybrid tax credit and it would appear that I have lucked out. I was pretty close to jumping in on the Prius bandwagon last Summer, and a lot of the logic behind it was the tax credit that was due to people who bought the hybrid before a certain calendar date. It would appear that people who were anticipating got bit by loopholes in the Alternative Minimum Tax portion of our exciting tax code. In other words, most people were only able to receive around 50% of the $3,000+ they were hoping to get knocked off their taxes.
Without the tax credit, it really isn’t economical to get a hybrid. I’m glad I held out, but I do wish I had a new car! Hopefully the Passat can give me another 8-12 months before I take the plunge.

8-12 months. That’s familiar. Not to be pessimistic, but… good luck.
