Signs.

churchsignHere is an article about the curious history of church signs.

I have always found these to be interesting, as I’m not sure (much like the author) as to their intended audience: churchgoers or non-churchgoers? And of course, who doesn’t enjoy a good pun? Despie the fact I’m sure it rarely would pull someone off the side of the road to go to worship, I think it’s safe to say that believers and non-believers alike can appreciate the witty and not so witty wordplay.

Anyway, check out the slideshow on the site or make your own sign.  I have personally spent way too much time making my own signs in the past.

sheehan It would appear cutting and running isn’t exclusive to Democratic politicians. Now Cindy Sheehan is jumping ship from the anti-war movement and going home.

Reason.

al goreAl Gore’s new book, The Assault on Reason will go on sale next week, but an exceprt of it is now on the web. It’s a good read, and a glimpse into what the book will address. I predict that next week, there will be an unprecedented attack on Gore, his family, his energy costs, even his girth. But, almost nobody will talk about the actual subject matter of the book. Because to discuss the book and it’s subject matter gives it credibility, and that would make every politician, and really every American, look bad. One of the first pages look like this:

It is too easy—and too partisan—to simply place the blame on the policies of President George W. Bush. We are all responsible for the decisions our country makes. We have a Congress. We have an independent judiciary. We have checks and balances. We are a nation of laws. We have free speech. We have a free press. Have they all failed us? Why has America’s public discourse become less focused and clear, less reasoned? Faith in the power of reason—the belief that free citizens can govern themselves wisely and fairly by resorting to logical debate on the basis of the best evidence available, instead of raw power—remains the central premise of American democracy. This premise is now under assault.

I am excited to give this book a spin.

If you’re a CS3 user, especially on the Mac, I’m sure you’re already tired of the CS3 icons.  Help has arrived!   Adam Betts has put together a nice set of app and document icons to make your eyes a bit happier when looking at these dock icons all day long.

Enjoy!
