Reason.

al goreAl Gore’s new book, The Assault on Reason will go on sale next week, but an exceprt of it is now on the web. It’s a good read, and a glimpse into what the book will address. I predict that next week, there will be an unprecedented attack on Gore, his family, his energy costs, even his girth. But, almost nobody will talk about the actual subject matter of the book. Because to discuss the book and it’s subject matter gives it credibility, and that would make every politician, and really every American, look bad. One of the first pages look like this:

It is too easy—and too partisan—to simply place the blame on the policies of President George W. Bush. We are all responsible for the decisions our country makes. We have a Congress. We have an independent judiciary. We have checks and balances. We are a nation of laws. We have free speech. We have a free press. Have they all failed us? Why has America’s public discourse become less focused and clear, less reasoned? Faith in the power of reason—the belief that free citizens can govern themselves wisely and fairly by resorting to logical debate on the basis of the best evidence available, instead of raw power—remains the central premise of American democracy. This premise is now under assault.

I am excited to give this book a spin.

  1. That picture makes Al Gore seem intimidating, as opposed to the doughy waste of flesh that he is in person.

  2. You’ve met Mr. Gore?

  3. Yeah, I have to agree…that’s quite a picture.

Unleash the wrath, Gore, unleash it.

  4. It’s an inconvenient truth, Gore is a fatty.

  5. Al Gore is a log cabin Republican.
