Positive.

Ars Technia just posted an article titled ‘Amid gloom and doom, US tops list of world’s most competitive economies. I feel that, even if this is true, we’re still headed for a pretty bad recession in the next 12-24 months. We are in way over our heads debt-wise, and the cost of real goods such as gasoline and food have been increasing at a rate way beyond that of wages. Consumer spending will take a huge hit in the next year as money gets tighter, and from there it’s only a matter of time before the bottom falls out.

So, enjoy the good news. I have a feeling we’re not going to get a whole lot more of it any time soon in the economics department. We’ve been running our entire government operation on credit for far too long, and much like American consumers, there will come a time where we have to pay for poor fiscal decisions. Despite our competitiveness, I think the doom and gloom will come to the forefront again quite soon.

Check out this Q & A With Senator Barack Obama On Key Technology Issues over at TechCrunch. It’s no secret nowadays that I’m an Obama supporter, but every time I hear him speak more on his beliefs and positions, the more committed I am to his campaign. If you are into technology at all, you should read what he has to say about many of the hot button issues out there today.

Gobble.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving holiday, and eating tons of great food! It’s always a nice warm-up for Christmas, but I always eat way too much good food and get a chance to come up with a short list of things I’m thankful for:

  • Parents. I don’t know where I’d be without them. Every step of the way, they’re there for me, no matter what it is that I need them to help with.
  • The lovely Michelle. I feel so lucky to have her in my life. She’s brilliant, funny, kind, and absolutely beautiful.
  • Meadow. She’s absolutely insane, but I love her more than life itself.

Tonight is the OFFICIAL beginning of Christmas season, and I’m going to go brave the crowds tomorrow AM with Michelle @ the mall. Should be insane/fun/interesting.

Happy turkey day!

I saw a similar post on another site, so I figured I’d post the books I am reading right now. From top to bottom:

They’re all pretty good, but The World Without Us has so far been my favorite. I have a few more books on the deck, but are much more technical in nature. Maybe every few months I’ll throw up a list of what I’m reading … or maybe just put this in flickr-land from now on.
