Reduction

After dealing with a lot of the clutter weighing down my Web 2.0 existence a few months ago, I have again come to a time where I feel like keeping up with all of these social networking sites is more trouble than it’s worth. I’m not sure yet if it’s just a general lack of motivation or not — I have trouble getting the energy to write in my blog as well these days as well. Regardless, as is my custom every six or so months, it’s time to cut back on the sites and services that I am using.
Does anyone really care about what I have to say on Twitter? Probably not. There was a time where I would use it to make sarcastic quips about things that I noticed or bothered me, but it has slowly turned into a place where I dump the most mundane thoughts. Newsvine is an excellent site, but reading the comments there are just depressing. Flickr is outstanding for what it is, and I have no plans to discard it any time soon, but even that has suffered from a lack of attention due to the fact that I haven’t done a lot (of photo worthy things) since vacation earlier this summer. Last.fm is surprisingly the site that I get the most use of lately. I say ’surprisingly’ because I had gotten rid of my membership there last December. It’s been a great way to learn about new artists & evaluate my listening habits, and I’m not sure why I dumped it in the first place.
With all of that said, I feel like getting rid of any of these sites outright is probably hasty, and I have no intention of doing so any time soon. However, if you see me out there a lot less, you know why. Additionally, I have a few blog posts in the pipeline, but I’m starting to question continuing that as well. A link blog would be kind of cool, but I tried that a while ago and I’m not sure if anyone cares to read it without some sort of discussion to follow. Why else post the links if I don’t want to start a conversation?
Anyway, maybe it’s my old age, but I’m getting tired of this ’social web’ business. Stay off my lawn.

I think I know how to inject some new life into your blog and “energize the base.” Get an attractive, wacko woman who has strange ideas about God, a screwed-up family, and minimal foreign policy experience to jump on the ticket.
Yeah, that’s right. Andrews/Yother ‘08.

You post video links from Keith Olbermann on your Twitter account. That’s all I have to say. You and Michelle can post all the “I’m better than thou” statements that you want, but you still present that douche’s remarks. I’m dumbfounded.

Remember kids, when in doubt, attack the messenger who posted the video of the messenger rather than debate the issue.

I am so confused right now.

While on the subject, I think that Rick’s Corner should make a return for the election season.

I second that emotion. A return of Rick’s Corner is sorely needed.

In these uncertain times, it may be our only shot.
I’d happily set up a subdomain here, or blogger.com is always an option.
